A new website

Written by Josh Laase

I’ve had a personal website for many years, and over that time I’ve experimented with a few different CMS platforms. I started with WordPress, but honestly, I found it too complicated for what I wanted in a personal site. After that, I tried out Bludit. I actually really liked Bludit and ran my site on it for quite a while. It’s lightweight, easy to use, and fun to work with. It was even the first project where I submitted a PR, and the best part is, it got accepted!

The downside, though, is that Bludit is developed by a very small team, and over time it became clear that it’s not really under active development anymore. That eventually pushed me to move on.

These days, my site runs on Kirby. I had tried Kirby once before, but back then I preferred Bludit. This time around, I decided to take a different approach and started fresh with their PlainKit. Building from that foundation made working with Kirby a lot more enjoyable and flexible.

I still have plenty of things I want to build out on the site, but this setup has already helped me focus on what I really wanted all along—writing more posts.
