Verify Code Signatures for Apps in MacOS

For a couple of years, I had been using a great little app called RB App Checker Lite. Recently this started crashing, so I had to go back to the command line with codesign.

The purpose of this post is just to help me remember which command I need to run in order to validate that my app and DMG files have been signed correctly.

code sign -dv --verbose=4 /Path/To/Application.app

After running this command, you should be able to verify that the application was signed with the correct developer certificate by looking at the the authority section.

Authority=Developer ID Application: Joshua Laase (C12345678L)
Authority=Developer ID Certification Authority
Authority=Apple Root CA
